The Polisario Front reaffirms that it will not participate in any political process or negotiations based on any proposals that aim to deny the Sahrawi people their right to self-determination and sovereignty over their homeland.
As Security Council consultations continue on the American ‘Draft Resolution’ concerning the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), the Polisario Front issued a statement today, reiterating its position on the ‘Draft Resolution,’ as well as its absolute rejection of any approach that pre-frames the negotiations, anticipates their outcomes, restricts the exercise of the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, or imposes a solution against their will. »
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia el-Hamra and Río de Oro (Polisario Front) S T A T E M E N T Bir Lehlou, Sahrawi Republic, October 27, 2025 – The Polisario Front is closely following the ongoing consultations regarding the « Draft Resolution » circulated on October 22, 2025, by the Permanent Mission of the United States of America to the members of the Security Council, in its capacity as penholder on the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).
As it emphasized in its letter addressed to the President of the Security Council on October 23, 2025, the Polisario Front reiterates its absolute rejection of any approach that pre-frames the negotiations, anticipates their outcomes, restricts the exercise of the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, or imposes a solution against their will.
In this regard, the Polisario Front strongly reaffirms that it will not participate in any political process or negotiations based on any proposals, regardless of their source, that aim to « legitimize » the illegal Moroccan military occupation of Western Sahara and deny the Sahrawi people their inalienable, non-negotiable, and imprescriptible right to self-determination and sovereignty over their homeland.
The Polisario Front recalls that it submitted an extended proposal to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on October 20, 2025, as a gesture of goodwill and in response to the Security Council resolutions. It reaffirms its continued readiness to enter into direct negotiations with the other party, provided that the latter has a genuine political will to engage in the same spirit and move away from status quo-based and unilaterally imposed solutions, which will only lead to further tension and endanger peace, security, and stability in the entire region.
The Polisario Front strongly asserts that a just and lasting peace in our region can never be achieved by rewarding a policy of expansion and territorial conquest by force, but rather by defending the fundamental principles of international law, including the inalienable right of peoples to exercise self-determination under optimal conditions of freedom, integrity, transparency, and without any form of external interference.
The Polisario Front once again urges all members of the Security Council to constructively use their influence to create the necessary conditions for the two parties, the Polisario Front and Morocco, to engage in serious, credible, and time-bound negotiations, without preconditions and in good faith, under the auspices of the United Nations, with the aim of reaching a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution that guarantees the people of Western Sahara their self-determination in accordance with the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations and its relevant resolutions.
