Tebboune seeks relief in Tunis ties after US shift on Western Sahara

TUNIS – Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune is looking for diplomatic relief to cope with the landmark US recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Western Sahara and Rabat’s normalisation of relations with Israel. The two diplomatic developments, sponsored by the US administration of President Donald Trump, could mean further isolation of Algeria, which insists on pressing ahead with its support to the separatist Polisario Front despite its internal crises. On Thursday, the Algerian president announced, during a call with his Tunisian counterpart Kais Saied, his intention to visit Tunisia after his full recovery.
