Algerian Foreign Minister, Ramtane Lamamra, described on Thursday in Algiers the verbal escalation of Morocco with regard to Algeria, following a recent incident at the border between the two countries, as « bad strategy of tension ».
« The view of Algeria (on the incident) was said and we stick to that. The rest is a bad strategy of escalation, poor strategy of tension, a headlong rush that serves neither the interests of neighborhood nor the interests of any other country, » the minister said on the sideline of his meeting with the Minister of foreign Affairs of Senegal, Ndiaye Mankeur.
« I would just say that Algeria has had its say on this issue and I reiterate this position. Algeria is not responsible for injuries that were inflicted on a person on the Moroccan side of the border, » Lamamra said in response to reporters’ questions on the subject.
Algeria had already dismissed the « misleading » presentation by the Moroccan side of the reaction of the Algerian border guards, issues of provocation by a group of Moroccan smugglers, as well as its political and media « abusive » exploitation on October 18.
